Don’t Forget the Map
Technology is great but there are lots of stretches of really lonesome highway where cell reception is nonexistent. It is always good to have a paper atlas/ road map with you. Also, these lonesome stretches of highway radio stations may be hard to find, and Pandora isn’t there to rescue you, so you will need to either have mp3’s downloaded or even more old fashion and have those CD’s ready to be played again.
Always be prepared for the unexpected emergency rather it is boredom because your gadgets have no data connection, or you’re lost because you have no cell service.
Make sure you keep an emergency kit with flares, water, oil, a good spare tire, and other automotive necessities well stocked and maintained for your adventures on the road. It is also good to make sure your first aid kid is handy and stuff like Advil, sinus medicine, and medicine you regularly use is handy. There is nothing worse than having to dig through suitcases or boxes to find your medicine when you aren’t feeling well and you are on the road.
We have actually used a few of these things. The RV broke down on the road at 9p.m. in the middle of nowhere. It was very dark and a 2 lane highway. Thank goodness we had Good Sam
Road Assistance! We called it in and they sent a tow truck out and hauled us into the closet town for the weekend and then on Monday morning came back to the small town and towed into Amarillo Texas to a shop to be fixed. We never had to pay a dime in towing charges. Definitely, check out the website. It’s worth every penny.

Don’t let an over reliance on technology create another emergency in an emergency situation. Just because we have cell phones and they make life easier and getting help is generally easier when we have car issues it may not always be the case. There are still areas out there with spotty reception or no reception at all.
So follow the Boy Scout Motto and Always be Prepared. And, safe travels onto your next gig and adventure on the road.
